13 inmates escape from Kogi prison

Thirteen inmates have escaped from the  Koton-Karfi Medium Prison along Opareke in Kogi State.

They were said to have escaped on Saturday morning after the prison wall collapsed.

Sources alleged that insiders could have facilitated the escape of the inmates.

9JA RAYS gathered that the prison officials on duty opened some of the cells for the inmates to come out for their normal morning activities, only for the inmates to pull a section of the prison’s wall down and escape into a nearby bush.

One of the prison officials, who refused to identify himself, said four kidnappers were brought to the Koton-Karfi Prison on Friday afternoon. He added that the new inmates might have been responsible for the escape.

Saturday’s incident is the  third jailbreak in the last three weeks in the prison.

Efforts to speak with the Comptroller of Prison, Kogi State Command, Mr. Musa Maza, proved abortive.
