The rate of failed marriages in Kwara State is on an increase, as courts in some areas of the region have received up to 38 divorce petitions in eight months.
This occurred between January to August 2016 in the Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government of the state, according to reports given by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Reports have it that 15 marriages were dissolved, 11 resolved, while 12 others were still pending in the rampant divorce cases.
There was however a reduction in the number of divorce cases recorded in 2016 as opposed to 46 petitions submitted in the year 2015.
According to an Area Court Judge, Abolade Banigbe, the high number of divorce cases has caused quite a number of problems for the judiciary.
Speaking on the matter, Banigbe said, “Such had become a big problem for all the tiers of government to address and accord top priority in the interest of national development,"
“Its when the people of the communities chose to imbibe peaceful coexistence that we can also have peace of mind as judges and magistrates serving in the localities,’’ he said.
